Be Creative

Around Thanksgiving every year my daughter has to “disguise a turkey” for a class assignment. Last year she made a sunflower using this template. I have a picture at the end of this post for an additional idea! This year she mentioned to me that turkey feathers remind her of crayons, so I thought a crayon box turkey would be a fun and COLORFUL idea! It was a very easy project for her to put together. I have provided two free printable options below for your little one to make their very own Crayon Box Turkey Disguise!

Directions:

Print crayons on cardstock paper and cut out.

Arrange crayons in desired order and fan them to form the turkey’s feathers. Staple the middle (optional). This step helped to prevent the crayons from sliding around when placing them as feathers. My daughter added glue in between the crayons for additional support. You could also have your little one glue the crayons on the box one by one.

Cut the tab off of the box of crayons. Add glue to the top half of the back of the box.

Place the box on top of the “feathers.” We liked to keep the box whole to allow the turkey to stand and be three-dimensional. You could cut the front off of the box of crayons if you wanted the turkey to lay flat.

Trace the snood (the thing that hangs down on the turkey) on red construction paper and trace the diamond twice on orange construction paper. Cut one of the orange diamonds in half (this will be the turkey’s feet).

Glue the snood first and then fold the orange diamond in half and glue so the turkey’s beak can open and close. Glue the eyes. Take the two orange triangles (from step above) and glue the wide section to the bottom of the box keeping half of the triangles exposed to form the feet.

Color your own!

Have your little one color and label their own crayons for this activity!

With assistance, have them cut out their crayons and arrange their “feathers.”

Repeat steps above to complete the turkey!

We loved how both the printed and colored turkey turned out! My daughter was excited to take this in to her class for her turkey’s “disguise!” She named him CAM which she said stood for “Crayons Are Magic.” So fun!

Sunflower Turkey Disguise

We completed this turkey disguise last year for my Daughter’s Kindergarten class. We used the body, feathers “petals,” snood, and beak from this template. Layered the feathers in a flower shape, glued the turkey body on top (orange construction paper) and then glued dried black beans for the “sunflower seeds.” Another simple, fun turkey disguise to make with your little one!

Follow me along on Instagram and let me know if you make one of these! I would love to see!
