Be Creative

Sensory bins have been one of our favorite activities recently! They offer hours of creative play for little ones and can be quickly put together using items you already have at home! We normally start out with a few craft supplies and before you know it, all of my Daughter’s Fisher Price Little People have made their way into the bin as well! Now that Spring has arrived, I wanted to put together an Easter Egg sensory bin with fun pastel colors and bunnies for my Daughter to enjoy!

Assembly:

  • Dye your beans
    • Divide beans into 5 Ziploc bags or however many colors you choose
    • Add 2 squirts of acrylic paint and 2 squirts of hand sanitizer per bag
    • Shake until the beans are evenly coated
    • Lay out on a tray or paper plate to dry (I dyed the beans the day before but they should dry within a few hours)

Place your giant cookie cutter in your bin, firmly press down on the cutter and fill each section with desired colored beans. I started from the inside (pink circles) and filled every other section working outward. Don’t worry if beans slip into the other sections, the correct color will cover it up in the end. 🙂

Fill around the cookie cutter with rice. Make sure the rice is very compact and then carefully remove the cookie cutter by pulling straight up.

Add your sensory items! I always like to include pom poms and spiky balls for texture and a few different items for scoops. Make sure items are age appropriate for your little one and don’t leave them unsupervised while playing with small objects.

My daughter really enjoyed playing with this sensory bin! Check out my Instagram Reels for a video tutorial and let me know if you try this out with your little one!

Additional Sensory Activity:

  • Easter Bunny Seek and Find Sensory Game – 3 different ways to play!
    • Option 1: Find and sort all the erasers (or Pom Poms) into the color coordinated cups
    • Option 2: Have your little one find all 10 erasers of one color before moving on to the next color (this takes more time to complete versus finding and sorting the colors all at once as they go, not to mention having to count them!) 😉
    • Option 3: Have up to 4 kids play together and each find “their” assigned color!

This was a great learning activity with color sorting and counting! Also, the nice thing about this case is you can attach the lid back to the top and store it for another day! Sensory bins always make the best rainy day activities! 🙂
