Be Creative

Our girls love bunnies! I wanted to make them each a cute and fluffy bunny wand to enjoy this Spring! They are actually pretty simple to make! I have provided an in-depth step by step tutorial below. These would be perfect to make to add to an Easter basket as well!

Materials needed:

Step 1 (bunny face):

Open one side of pom pom maker.

Wrap the white yarn around the arm 4 – 5 layers (the more you wrap the thicker your pom pom).

Fold wrapped side into the maker.

Repeat on the other side.

Make sure both sides are folded into maker.

Cut down the middle of the wrapped yarn.

Cut all the way across.

Repeat on other side.

Take an extra piece of yarn, pull through the middle (where you just cut) and tie a knot.

Pull the arms open.

Pull pom pom maker a part.

Trim to form a ball.

Step 2 (bunny ears template):

Cut 4 “U” shaped pieces out of cardboard. Mine measured 4″ tall x 4″ wide and the arch was 1″ thick (these are just a guide and don’t need to be perfect) 🙂

Take two arches…

and layer them together.

Repeat with the other set and keep each set layered together.

Step 3 (forming bunny ears):

Start wrapping pink yarn around the middle of one arch set.

Wrap 3-4 layers or until cardboard underneath isn’t showing through. Only wrap to the bend of the arch (shown above) and cut string.

Wrap your white yarn around the arch (extended past the pink).

Keep wrapping until all the pink is covered.

Make sure to wrap until the white is horizonal across (it will extend past the pink on each side).

Take your other arch set and ONLY WRAP the white yarn until it is horizontal across and no cardboard is showing underneath. (There is no pink yarn on this one)!

You will end up with two wrapped arches (one with pink and white and one with white only).

Bend the cardboard out towards the side from the base of the yarn.

Place them together.

Take a paperclip and connect the two sides together.

Do this on all four sides.

Step 4 (trimming bunny ears):

Similar to the pom pom maker, start to cut down the middle of your wrapped yarn. Make sure your scissors are sharp.

Make sure paperclips stay together.

Repeat on the other side.

Take a piece of yarn and place it through where you just cut (similar to pom pom maker).

Wrap it all the way around and tie a knot.

Pull cardboard away (but don’t discard).

The pom pom will look similar to this at first.

Trim the ears to form more of an oval and a more compact pom pom.

Repeat step 3 and 4 above to make the other bunny ear.

Step 5 (bunny assembly):

Hot glue the base of the ears to the round pom pom.

Add a bow! 🙂

Add glue to the end of the wood dowel and push up into the middle of the round pom pom. It helps to twist while pushing.

Add additional yarn and push up to the base of the bunny!

Final Bunny Wand!

My daughter was really excited about her new bunny wand! Check out my quick 30 second video reel on Instagram for another tutorial on how to make this cute, fluffy wand! 🙂
