Be Creative

Rainbows have really been trending this year, and I’m here for it! There’s something bright and cheery about a rainbow that just makes you smile! Maybe it’s the colors, or the symbolism of how they always come out after a storm! Either way, they make for a fun craft to create! I’ve always enjoyed the look of pastel rainbows, it’s a sweet take on the traditional (primary) colors. But the nice thing is you can choose whatever colors you like!

Materials needed:

Directions:

Measure the cotton cord to desired outer arch length. I cut mine at the 9 inch mark.

Bend a new layer of the cord beneath the outer cord and cut.

Repeat until you have the desired number of rows. I chose to have 5 for my rainbows.

Wrap the ends of each arch with masking tape. Make sure to keep your arches in the right order.

Wrap a piece of the copper wire around the cotton cord. This will help the rainbow hold its shape and not be too flimsy.

Dab a small glue dot right above the masking tape and place the end of your desired outer yarn color.

Wrap the yarn from one end to the other, cut and glue the end above the masking tape on the other side.

Repeat the same process with each arch – wrap the copper wire, dab a dot of glue, place the “start” of your yarn and wrap (in order) with desired colors. Do not glue the “end” of your yarn on these particular rows (leave a small amount of extra loose yarn).

Bend into your desired rainbow shape. Starting from the outside arch (pink), lineup the yarn on each row to be even with the row beside it (you may have to unravel it a bit to get it even), cut and glue the end of the yarn to the cord.

Pull the arches away from each other and glue one at a time to the arch above it. Start with the outside arch (pink) and work your way in.

Once glued, pull the tape off of the ends and brush with a comb or brush (don’t worry if the ends are uneven).

Trim the ends straight across with scissors to desired length.

I love the velvety finish and softness to this particular yarn. It gave the rainbows a sweet touch which was perfect for my Daughter’s first birthday!

I glued extra yarn in a loop to the back of a few rainbows to place on favor bags for her rainbow themed party.

I also made enough to make a sweet rainbow banner for her party as well! Just glue ribbon to the mid-upper section of the back of each rainbow in a line.

It was a lot of fun making these sweet, soft rainbows! I also love how I can reuse them as decor in the girl’s playroom! The possibilities are endless regarding the type of yarn and colors you choose! Check out this post for an oversized version!
