Be Creative

What better way to wrap up our Solar System week than by celebrating the Sun with a Sunflower craft! These amazing flowers follow the sun throughout the day and have always been one of my favorites! They bloom in late Summer and early Fall depending on where you live. The beautiful deep gold colors remind me that Fall is just around the corner! It’s a great transition flower to celebrate the changing of seasons! 😉

Materials needed:

Free Printables:

Directions:

Print out the sunflower petal template.

Cut out each petal and center.

Fold one piece of orange tissue paper in half 5 times and lay the largest petal on top.

Cut out around the petal.

You will end up with enough petals to make at least 2-3 Sunflowers!

Fold another piece of orange tissue paper in half 5 times and place the other two petal sizes on top and cut around each one.

Fold one piece of yellow tissue paper in half 5 times and cut around large petal.

Fold another piece of yellow tissue paper in half 5 times and cut around the additional two petals.

Keep each petal size separate. I used these silicone muffin cups

Craft table ready to use! I placed the petals from largest to smallest (left to right) starting with the large orange one. Squeeze glue into a cup to have available with the brush.

Using the circle as a guide, spread glue with the brush around the perimeter of the circle and place the large orange petals around it.

Spread glue in between the base of each large orange petal and place a large yellow petal in between the two orange petals around the circle.

Spread glue in between the base of  the large yellow petals and place a medium orange petal. Continue this process until you finish with the smallest yellow petals.

Glue the black circle onto the center.

For more texture and dimension glue dried black beans on top of the black circle.
