Be Creative

Learning the Alphabet is one of the first major learning milestones for toddlers, so why not make it fun! This is a quick and easy Alphabet Egg Match activity to put together that will help your little one with upper and lowercase letter matching. This is also a great activity for your little one to work on fine motor skills!

Materials needed:

Assembly:

Place each uppercase letter sticker on 26 large eggs. You can also write on the eggs with a marker.

Place each lowercase letter sticker on 26 small eggs and fill each one with an M&M or a treat!

You should have 26 large eggs with each uppercase letter of the alphabet and 26 small eggs with each lowercase letter of the alphabet.

  • There are different ways to make this activity more or less challenging:
    • Easy: Make sure each upper and lowercase letter egg are the same color (example: large pink egg with letter “A” and small pink egg with letter “a” and so on).
    • Hard: Place the upper and lowercase letters on different (non-corresponding) colors.
    • Easy: Separate the large eggs in one bowl and small eggs in a different bowl (easier to sort through letters).
    • Hard: Combine the large and small eggs in one bowl (makes it more challenging to find the corresponding, matching egg and takes more time)!

Activity:

I put all of the eggs in one bowl for my daughter to sort through. She would randomly find an uppercase letter (large) egg and then search for the lowercase letter (small) egg to match it.

Find the corresponding upper and lowercase letters.

Have your child open the large egg (great fine motor skill) and place the small egg inside!

Have them close the large egg (another great fine motor activity) and place to the side or in a separate bowl or basket.

Have your little one go through all of the letters until complete! Once done, check all of the eggs and let them have the prize inside for the ones they got right! You could place stickers inside the small eggs for a non-candy option! I hope you and your little one enjoy this simple and fun learning activity! 🙂
